Let me tell you, what a week! So let me tell you about our COVID story. A story I was hoping we would never have to tell, but somehow my husband got COVID. My husband and I do everything together! So, how the heck did he get it and not me is what we have been wondering all week. So, I thought it would be a fun story to share.
It started off on a Wednesday. He began to feel sick. Slightly weak, a sore throat, and a runny nose. We thought “hmm maybe it was a little too cold and it was really windy last night, maybe it’s just allergies.” We went the whole day treating it as allergies. I had gone to the store and stocked up on supplies thinking I’ll be prepared for future colds, little did I know it would be our supplies for the week!
The next day it was a whole different story. He had chills, a fever, he threw up, had ummm bathroom problems, and had a pretty bad cough. This is when we realized “ah oh” this seems a lot more serious. He then began to wear a mask inside the house, worried that he might get me sick because I had no symptoms. We scheduled a 2 o’clock COVID test for the same day at a local Rite Aid. They said typically the results come in 2 to 5 days! We thought we were going to go crazy waiting for the results, but they emailed the results the next day! My test came back negative, but my husband's, on the other hand, was positive. As a precaution, we slept in separate rooms and had designated bathrooms and corners in the house. This really made me appreciate all my time with my husband that we spend next to each other like sleeping beside him every night.
We were both fully vaccinated but were due for our booster shots. We were just waiting for the ok to go get it which was Wednesday, November 10th. The Wednesday my husband got sick!
Here are some atypical solutions I thought I’d share that we did, starting with some things we did to stay healthy/get better using some of my favorite doTERRA oils.
Hot water with a couple of drops of Lemon Oil and some agave/honey to taste. We hear having non-caffeinated hot drinks helps with colds and prevention.
I also made a floom bomb for my husband. Inside of an oil roller I added 10 drops of each of these oils – Frankincense Oil, Tea Tree (Melaleuca) Oil, On Guard Oil, and Lemon Oil. You are also supposed to add 10 drops of Oregano Oil, but I cannot stand the smell and it is so overpowering, so I only add 2-3 drops. I then fill the rest with FCO (fractionated coconut oil), top it, shake it, and added it to the bottom of my husband’s feet and spine about every 4 hours.
On his bedside diffuser, I had On Guard, Tea Tree, and Frankincense going to help try to kill the germs in the room.
Around the rest of the house, I had two more diffusers running Purify Oil to help do that, purify the air.
I had my husband also roll some Breathe to his chest hoping it would help with his cough.
I had previously bought some Aromatherapy Inhaler tubes on Amazon. I made one for my Husband to help clear his nostrils. I added a few drops of Lemon Oil, Peppermint Oil, and Breathe Oil and sealed the tube. He would use this every so often when he was getting too stuffed/buggery.
Another huge, but very small, thing that helped were the On Guard Cough Drops. Both him and I used this to ease our throats.
These were just a few of the things that I did to help try and kill the germs and help me from getting sick. We also had to entertain ourselves and find ways from driving eachother crazy while quarantining.
We played video games. He had his own controller and I had mine and we would disinfect them after we used them with Clorox wipes.
We did a puzzle of the Tapei 101 tower. This puzzle actually took us an awfully long time to do! It was only 216 pieces. We thought, “oh yea that should be easy”, but boy were we wrong. It is a 3D puzzle to it made it much harder, but it sure kept our minds busy.
We went on daily walks. We would take the dogs for a good walk. We would get exercise and they would get exercise, win win. My husband would stay behind me and also wore a mask.
We would sit outside for about 10 minutes in the sun getting some vitamin D. Don’t forget to wear your sunscreen.
We caught up on our shows and watched movies our friends recommended.
On top of all that we did our best to work. I am self-employed and I have my own Etsy shop with my husband. Although I was not sick, I sure acted like it. I felt lazy and didn’t want to do anything. I teased my husband that he was rubbing off on me, but I took one for the team and made sure all our messages and orders were done.
On top of all this is was amazing seeing how many friends had reached out to help us out by getting us something or offering to get us something. We were amazed at all the kind words.
If anything that we got from this is that we are very lucky to have such great people surrounding us and lucky we were able to come out healthy on the other end of this awful virus.
Stay safe everyone and Live your best life! XOXO
