My husband and I are huge foodies! WE LOVE FOOD. I was more excited for all the yummy things we were going to be able to eat more than the places we were going to visit. These are just a few places we tried that I would actually recommend going but there is so many good finds you just gotta try! So here is our top 10!
1. The first place are the 7-Eleven’s! We stopped at almost every 7-Eleven we could because they all had something different and everything we picked was so yummy! Obviously, we picked things that looked fresh and good. We tried the pork hash because we heard good things about it, but we didn’t realize it’s practically sui mai which is what we eat when we go to get dim sum. Of course, we had to try the spam musubi! They had different kinds – teriyaki spam, spam, shrimp, etc. I also tried the spicy chicken sandwich which was delicious. We also tried nori rolls because we would eat these all the time when we were in Japan and we missed it.
2. We went to this cute breakfast spot called Aloha Kitchen. It felt so homey, and the service was great, the people were so friendly, and they had cute pink coffee mugs. We got the Meat Lover omelet that came with toast and potatoes, and we also got the banana souffle pancake. Both very delicious! The menu is quite small so it seems like it would be easy to choose from, but everything sounded so yummy!

3. We met a local on the mainland that recommended a few places for us to try while we were on Oahu. One of them being Zippy’s a fast-food chain there. The menu had so many options, but there was a nice lady there that gave us the most popular options that she personally would recommend. We ended up trying the Korean Fried Chicken which was very yummy, and I believe it was called the Chili & Chicken mixed plate which was ok. There are many other things that sounded good that we would have liked to try, so there should be something for everyone there. We went to the location right by the Marina which has a nice view for waiting for your food, but at the time we went, due to covid, there was no dine-in. The restaurant is an outdoor/indoor situation meaning not completely enclosed. We stopped here after our Koko Crater hike. I took a picture after I had already started because it smelt so good I couldn't wait to try it.

4. After we visited Zippy’s, in the same shopping center was Leonard's Bakery Malasada Truck. I had been looking forward to trying these because I LOVE donuts. The malasada’s were so crispy on the outside and so soft and fluffy in the inside. They were made to perfection. I hear the lines are usually super long, but luckily when we went there were only 3 people in line! It could have been that it was because the big storm was beginning, but I think it would have been worth the wait. We picked the 6 malasada’s option. We got original (plain sugar), li hing (my favorite but it is an acquired taste), dobash (chocolate filled), guava filled, strawberry filled and cinnamon sugar. We did not finish all of them cause it was just us two, but we really wanted to at least try all of them and they were all delicious.

5. If you want some good Filipino food you gotta go to Elena’s Restaurant. This was also recommended to us by our friend. We went for breakfast so we got the Pork Adobo Fried Rice Omelette which was HUGE! It was the size of a large Mexican burrito, but it was very delicious. They also have a Lechon Special Omelette that was our second option. I also ordered some turon because I love fried bananas and they were so yummy.

6. On Kalakaua Ave. there are so many places to eat. We were told to try and avoid eating on this street due to it being a tourist spot, but we had something to do so we needed to eat breakfast nearby. One of the places we ate at was the Hula Grill Waikiki which was inside a hotel above Dukes Restaurant. So, we just followed all the signs to get to Dukes and went up the stairs to get to the Hula Grill. Here we had delicious mochi waffles that were SO good. So good once again I forgot to take a picture, oops! I did get a screenshot from.a video I took but it does not do it any justice. My husband got the Loco Moco but wasn’t too crazy about it. If you haven’t been able to tell yet we love breakfast! But if you want to try some different food options for brunch or lunch this is the place. They have a lot of unique menu items. If you do decide to go I would recommend calling to make a reservation. We didn’t wait too long but they do accept reservations so might as well try. This location though was very strict with covid. We saw quite a few people get turned away for not having proof of a negative test or vaccine card while we were waiting to be seated.

7. Acai Bowls. There are sooo many places where you can find one, but we took a trip to North shore and found this cute little shack that I want to share. It's called Haleiwa Bowls. They have quite a few options for bowls, smoothies, and even drinks. They also have plenty of options for extra toppings if you wanted to add something extra. We got a Matcha Chia Pudding and I believe the Mana Bowl and a cold brew coffee. All were very good and we would recommend them. Another plus is that it was right off the highway and right next to the beach! It's perfect for any weather, even pouring rain.

8. I think one of our favorite places that we kept going back to, besides 7 Eleven, was Foodland. They are all over the island and are basically a supermarket but they also have tons and tons of fresh food and prepped hot food perfect for on the go. And of course they have tons of selection for desserts as well. I kept going back for the fresh poke bowls and and yummy snacks and desserts. We visited the one in the Ala Moana Center which is pretty big, clean, and looks pracitcally brand new and they have a Coffee Bean inside.

9. This next place is probably the most memorable place to us, it may just be a coffee shop but it really impressed us. My husband was over the free coffee at the hotel so we took a quick two minute walk around the corner to Kai Coffee. The line was decently long, which is already a good sign that it must be good. We got an iced Kai Latte, and we waited for our order to get called. While we waited we noticed two people sampling coffee beans which we are assuming is an owner. I thought it was pretty cool that he does business in the shop and he was also friendly and said hi cause we were watching. Well anyways, this coffee was so good that we went back the next two mornings before we left back home. We even took a bag of the esperesso beans home. SOO GOOD!!! A must try if you are staying on Kalakaua Ave.

10. Last but not least the shaved snow. It felt like we went on a shaved snow tour because my husband wanted to try some from ALL of them. We went to a handful some were good and some were not very good. Of all of them the one he won't stop talking about is Ice Monster Hawaii. We loved the freshness and how much it tasted like the actual fruit and not so much syrup and that they topped it off with fresh fruit and ice cream. We got the Mango one to try and it was delcious! We had just ate and were already full, but if we werent I think we would have tried one of the other flavors as well and their popsicles that also looked yummy.

Well thats the end of my list, but there were so many other places that we tried that didn't quite make the list. Atypical Solution- I suggest looking on yelp and not only at the reviews but the images because a lot of the places we visited were small or new and didn't have many reviews yet so don't always judge a book by its cover.
Thanks for reading and hope this helps you on your trip on Oahu Hawai'i, Maholo!
Live your best life! XOXO
